The STHOR brand soldering iron model 79368 features a traditional design with a resistance heater that plugs directly into a wall outlet. This straightforward construction makes the device highly reliable. With proper maintenance of the soldering iron tip, this soldering iron can serve you for many years. Its heating power is adequate for tasks such as soldering two copper wires, basic electronics in through-hole assembly technology, or working on stained glass and jewelry using the Tiffany method.

The soldering iron heats up to 350°C in about 3 minutes.
How to Maintain a Soldering Iron Tip
The tips of STHOR soldering irons are coated with a material that reduces oxidation. Prolonged heating and mechanical damage can wear down this protective layer, leading to quick oxidation of the tip and issues with solder joint melting. Instead of solder adhering to the tip, it can bubble and fall off. A recommended tip maintenance practice is to regularly tin the tip. When heating the soldering iron for the first time, apply a small amount of solder to the tip and remove the excess with brass shavings. This layer of solder will help prevent oxidation. It is advisable to tin the tip after every use.
Note
Cob soldering irons that plug directly into a wall outlet should use a plug with a grounding pin and be connected to a grounded outlet. Failing to ground the metal housing poses a risk of electric shock, potentially leading to burns. All STHOR soldering irons feature a grounded plug connected to the metal heater housing.
