The YATO YT-2864 voltage tester allows you to detect AC voltage, for example, in a household outlet or at the ends of wires using two methods: contact and induction. This device also enables users to conduct cable continuity tests and check the condition of batteries or rechargeable batteries. The presence of voltage is indicated by an LED light located inside the handle.
Functions of the Tester
Contact Method
Place the arrowhead on a live circuit. The illumination of the LED indicates that electric current is flowing through this element. In this method, it is not recommended to touch the contact located on the top of the handle. Touching the contact does not pose a risk of electric shock, but it may increase the sensitivity of the tester and potentially falsify the reading.
Inductive Method
This method allows for the detection of AC voltage in an insulated wire. To use it, hold the tester by the insulated part of the blade and bring the contact located at the top of the handle closer to the insulated wire. If the LED lights up, it indicates that the tested wire is live. You can enhance the sensitivity of this method by holding the tester by the uninsulated part of the blade. This method also allows for "contactless" detection of a break in a live electric wire. At the break point, the tester will stop signaling the presence of voltage.
Checking the Condition of Batteries
The tester can check the state of batteries or rechargeable batteries designed to power various electrical devices ranging from 1.5V to 9V. Place the tester blade on the battery terminal marked with a “+”, touch the contact on top of the handle, and then touch the terminal marked with a “-”. If the LED lights up, it means that the battery or battery pack is charged. Do not use this method to test batteries or rechargeable batteries with higher voltage ratings. Do not test batteries or accumulators that are connected to an electrical circuit.
Wire Continuity Check
To check the continuity of the wire, apply the tip to one end of the wire, while holding the contact located on top of the handle, and touch the other end of the wire. The lighting of the LED indicates the continuity of the tested wire. It is prohibited to check the continuity of live wires in an electrical circuit using this method.
